Elbow has to be my favourite band at the moment. Modern day band at least anyway. They've had four albums out so far. The first one is kind of mellow, with not many upbeat songs that takes few listens to appreciate. They became progressively more upbeat, and the third album is just a "tune tune after tune" album. 
Anyway, my fav song is the title track of their third album, Leaders of the Free World. If you don't them, here's that song:
